BAWAB Project

エジプトのカイロをはじめとする大都市には、

「バワブ（Bawab）」と呼ばれる、人たちが、

アパートやビルディングの前に

必ずと言っていいほど、居ます。

彼らは、言ってみればその建物の管理人なのですが、

その建物に住み込んでいる人たちも多く居ます。

社会的には地位が低い仕事ですが、

大切な仕事でもあります。

2013年。一年を通し、彼らの写真を撮影、

彼らのインタビューもしました。

イタリア人の友人二人とともに…

それらをまとめ、三人でお金を出し合って、

2014年6月に本に纏め、カイロで自費出版をしました。

本のタイトルは、

「BAWAB - Heart of Egypt」

人をもてなすエジプト人の象徴的な存在と感じ、

このタイトルとしました。

自費出版した原本は英語版ですが、

日本語のテキストも用意してあります。

日本語版の本を出版したいと思っています。

エジプトの普通に生きる人たちが、ここに居ます。

 

 

In the big city including Cairo, Egypt,

 there are people called "Bawab” in front of almost all  apartments and buildings.

They are managers of buildings,

 and also many of them are living in the building.

This is the work that are thought low position

 in socially, but is important work.

In 2013, through the year, I had taken their pictures,  and interviewed them with two Italian friends…

We contributed money and gathered those up in

 a book in June, 2014 and self-published it in Cairo.

The title of the book,

 

"BAWAB - Heart of Egypt"

 

We assumed them the symbolic existence of

 the Egyptian who treated strangers generous

 so that we titled this book like that.

The book which we self-published is English version,  but the Japanese text is prepared.

We want to publish the book of the Japanese edition.

There are Egyptian people living commonly here.
